Hefazat-e-Islam leader Mufti Harun Izahar was arrested in connection with the violence in Hathazari
RAB has arrested Hefazat leader Mufti Harun Izahar from a madrasa in Chittagong’s Lalkhanbazar in connection with the Hathazari violence.
A team of RAB arrested Mufti Harun Izahar, secretary of education and culture of the newly dissolved committee of Hefazat-e-Islam from Jamiatul Uloom Al-Islamia Lalkhan Bazar Madrasa in Lalkhanbazar of Khulshi police station around 12pm on Wednesday (April 26).
Harun Izahar was later shown arrested in connection with the violence in Hathazari after being taken to the RAB’s Chittagong zone office in Patenga.
Mufti Harun Izahar is the founder of the madrassa from which Harun was arrested.
He is the son of Mufti Izaharul Islam, former Naib Amir of Hefazat-e-Islam and President of Islamic Unity (Part).
These father and son have been widely discussed and criticized for various reasons, including their involvement in militant activities.
RAB Chittagong Zone Commander Lt. Harun Izahar confirmed the arrest. Colonel Mashiur Rahman Jewel said, “We have arrested Harun Izahar. Harun was then questioned about the three days of violence in Chittagong’s Hathazari from March 26.
After preliminary interrogation, Harun Izahar has been shown arrested as a helper in the case filed in connection with the Hathazari riots.
The grenade blast took place on October 6, 2013 at the Lalkhan Bazar Madrasa in Chittagong, run by Mufti Izhar and Mufti Harun Izhar.
At least five people were injured in the blast. Two of them died at the hospital.
Police raided the madrasa and recovered four fresh grenades and 16 bottles of acid. Mufti Harun Izahar was arrested in that incident and was in jail for a long time.
A total of 11 cases are pending against Harun Izahar, including three in this case and six in Hefazat’s sabotage case.
Hefazat leader Harun Izahar is also accused in three cases filed on May 5, 2013 in connection with clashes and sabotage during the long march of Hifazat-e-Islam at Shapla Chattar in the capital.
