Planning Minister MA Mannan’s mobile phone was snatched from the Bijay Sarani area of the capital Dhaka.
On Sunday (May 31) evening, a car carrying the minister was stuck in a traffic jam. A snatcher snatched the iPhone from the minister while he was sitting in the car and was browsing internet.
In a press conference after the ECNEC meeting at the Planning Commission on Tuesday, Minister Mannan said, “I was browsing my mobile phone in Bijay Sarani on my way home from the Planning Ministry on Sunday evening.” At that time the car glass was lowered. Suddenly, before I knew it, someone was running with my mobile phone. The focus was on browsing the internet, which is why it took me a few seconds to understand what happened in a moment. When my sense got back, I told the police gunman in the car and took my mobile.
The planning minister said, “My gunman stopped the car and followed the hijacker but could not catch him.”
He said, “My son sent the iPhone mobile phone from the United States for one thousand usd. I am requesting the journalists to inform the law enforcers about the loss of my mobile phone’
Meanwhile, Humayun Kabir, a personal officer of the minister, filed a case with Kafrul police station on the same night over the loss of iPhone. Case number 36.
According to the statement of case, the planning minister left his office at 7.50 pm on Sunday on his official car number Dhaka Metro G-18-5624 for his home on Bailey Road. While standing at the Vijay Sarani traffic signal, the minister opened the car window at around 7 pm and was talking on his mobile phone. At that time, an unidentified thief grabbed the iPhone X (IMEI number 35627509265484 black color) used by the minister and ran away. The minister’s gunman in the car chased after the unidentified thief but the thief managed to escape.
Kafrul Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Selimuzzaman said, ‘The minister’s PS has filed a case in this incident. Hon’ble Minister was returning to Vijay Smarani Road at the end of his office. The minister’s convoy was stuck in a traffic jam at Vijay Semarang. At that moment, a snatcher snatched the minister’s phone while he was talking on the phone. No arrests have been made so far.
